Two hours up, ten years back
From Johannesburg
About 2 h 40 on the N4 to Belfast, then the R540 through Dullstroom. The last four kilometres are farm gravel, friendly to any car.
From the airport
Kruger Mpumalanga International is 1 h 50 away. The concierge arranges transfers, and the driver knows where the pie shop is.
On arrival
Check-in from 14:00, checkout by 11:00, both bendable when the rack allows. Gates close at 22:00, night arrivals by arrangement.
Asked often, answered gladly
Children
Very welcome in the Crane Villas, where the second bedroom earns its keep. The rooms and the Nest are kept for grown-up quiet.
Weather
Highland rules: bright days, cold noses. Frost visits from May to September and the fires stay lit. Pack one more layer than you think.
Power and signal
The generator hums through load shedding before you notice it. Wifi is quick, cell signal is shy, and we consider that a feature.
Dinner
The Boathouse holds a table for every stay automatically. Tell the concierge about counter seats, birthdays or shellfish opinions.
